New mixed media prints on wood.

Today I've put up all my prints on boards in my etsy shop. A cheap way to buy prints made from archival pigment inks printed on hand made himalayan paper and then adhered to the wood and varnished so no need for framing!
I have a mixture of etchings, drawings, paintings and collage to choose from.
Here is a new drawing called Full House which is part of a set of three prints,15cm x 15cm, they make a great house warming gift. Cat and Pug also available in their new houses!

Yayoi Kusama

I visited the Tate this week and saw the spotty paintings and installations of the artist Yayoi Kusama. She has a kind of hallucinatory condition where she sees the world covered in spots and has recreated this in her artwork as a way of coping with it. She has lived in a psychiatric hospital, self imposed, since the 70s in a room with just a bed and french windows looking out onto a garden where she can see tennis players. Every day she eats breakfast, walks to her studio to paint, comes back for lunch and then back to her studio and is looked after by the staff, I guess, who feed her and tidy up . .....This life appeals to me!

Ride a White Swan

I have been thinking, of late, about T Rex, aka. Marc Bolan's, lyrics. They seem completely weird and surreal and I like their woodland theme. I wondered who "people of the Beltane" were from Ride a White Swan and discovered they were witchy/wizardy types who were a bit wicker-mannish:

Beltane has long been celebrated with feasts and rituals. The name means fire of Bel; Belinos being one name for the Sun God, whose coronation feast we now celebrate. As summer begins, weather becomes warmer, and the plant world blossoms, an exuberant mood prevails. In old Celtic traditions it was a time of unabashed sexuality and promiscuity where marriages of a year and a day could be undertaken but it is rarely observed in that manner in modern times.

I have been making prints and sticking them on boards, ready to hang, I will add them to my shop soon. Including the picture above once I have photographed them.

Squidgy and Cuddly

( As a mother you have to be ahead of the game...... it can be all round exhausting!)

It can also be charming when you see your small son in a tight, knitted cardigan looking squidgy and cuddly:

A while ago I was working out a cover to my comic. Here is one idea I had it was my strong self saving my weak self. I rather like that idea and I might carry on with it and do some more drawings on this theme. All these pictures are a coment on hormonal changes. (PMT, PMS whatever you like to call it - same symptoms - some people don't get it and they're v. lucky  )

Nancy Weinberg

Here is a lovely painting from edithpiaf by Nancy Weinberg. I used to dress my cats up in bonnets and aprons when I was young and seem to remember the same expressions on their faces.

This linocut I made recently, using chine collee, called Captain Charlotte, is of a feisty pirate teacher with her own set of rules, giving lessons to her pupils.

At Home: In reality teenage boys charge around the house eating everything in their path leaving chaos in their wake.Plus two crazy meowing bengal cats that fight one another.
I have started to jog a little every other day to build up my strength. Then escape to my creative headspace for a little respite.

An Unfortunate Misadventure

An Unfortunate Misadventure.
Here is an etching of dolls riding out on a chicken at night. This is inspired by old fashioned dolls with hinged wooden knees and a book I had of dolls coming alive at night. I think a chicken's soft feathers would be very comfortable. The chicken turns and the little doll falls. They will have yo save her.

Here is a real old wooden doll in need of a dress.

In real life I am a girl in a house full of boys. How our thoughts must differ.

Woman impersonating a plane

Here I am embarking on my blog with a picture of one of my etchings "Woman Impersonating a Plane (after years of frustration)"....this is a bit like me right now in my life. I am launching into a time in my life thinking more of  me, even though the family travel on my back and require many lifts, I am a taxi.
I think this blog will be eclectic snippets mainly of things in my local world, my house, my town, my family and two lively cats and anything that keeps me wanting to make artwork.
